Surrounded by love, Barbara Ellen Carey (neé Keating) of Witless Bay passed peacefully away on July 11th following a brief illness.
Predeceased by her parents Thomas and Edith (O’Toole) Keating, brothers Deacon Desmond, Tommy and infant sister Olive. Her first husband of 25 years, Paul Carey and his parents Vince and Clara Carey.
Left with fond and wonderful memories, her husband of 22 years Ken White, daughter Lynette, sons: Paul, Greg (Robyn) and Trevor (Connie). Ken’s children; Brian White and Jennie Nilsson (Steve) and their children. Her beautiful grandchildren, whom she dearly loved and cherished, Andrew and Jarett Carey; Sophia, Courtney & Erica White; William Carey; Jasmine, Claire & Madison Carey; Lincoln & Cooper Nilsson.
Also left to mourn are her siblings: Doris Butler (Mike deceased), Alex Keating (Margie), Robert Keating (Juanita, Donna deceased), Judy Ellis (Perry), Marion Page (Ken, Norm deceased) and Sharon Keating (Noel) and sister-in-law Maureen Keating and their families. Brothers and sisters-in-law: Maureen Keating, Will Carey (Marie), Ann Marie Carey (Joe deceased), Mona Carey (Gus deceased); (Vince & Jackie Carey deceased). Bruce White, Eugene White (Betty), Shirley Rimiller (Thad); Rose Barron (Freeman), Paul White, Doug White (Darlene), Dave White (Maureen).
Barbara left an indelible mark. Her compassion and caring for others was prevalent throughout her life, from her career as a school teacher and principal and into her retirement. Barb’s involvement in the community knew no bounds, she was a passionate supporter of all things community including her tenure as mayor of Witless Bay, Board of Governors for the Avalon Community College, original Board member of the Southern Shore Arena, chair of the local 50+ club, church bereavement team, eucharistic minister and lector.
Barb’s home was a warm welcoming environment for all who entered and she extended her love to special friends who quickly became family. She will be dearly missed by many who were fortunate to know her.
Visitation will be held at Ryan’s Funeral Home, Bay Bulls on Monday, July 14 and Tuesday, July 15 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Kevin’s Catholic Parish, Goulds on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at 10:00 am with cremation to follow.
Reception to follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Witless Bay, all are welcome.
