Catherine "Cathy" Coady Obituary

It is with sad, but grateful hearts for a life well lived, we, the Coady family, mourn the peaceful passing of our darling sister and loved one, Catherine Mary “Cathy”, at St Clare’s Hospital, on Thursday, September 25, 2025 after a short but brave battle with cancer.

Cathy was predeceased by her parents; John and Maude (née Jones) Coady, brothers; Tom and baby Francis, sisters and brothers-in-law: Mary & Bill Skillman, Chloe and Sam Coffin, Sarah and Michael Contreris, Jenny Crocker, Richard Burgess Sr, nephew Randy Burgess and many members of the Coady and Jones families.

She will be sadly missed by her sisters: Rose, Fran (Tom), Paula (Don), and Norma (Gerard), brothers; John (Mary) and Bernard (Carmel), sister-in-law Doreen,  brother-in-law Paul, nieces: Lisa, Samantha, Wendy, Bernadette, Tracey, Paulette, Melissa, Leona, Cindy, Charlene and Rebekah, nephews: Rich, Billy, David, Michael, Stephen, Barry, Paul, Mark, Bernard, Gerard, Darrin and their families, and of course her sweet, furry boy, Toby.

Being our only sibling not to marry, Cathy lived at home with mom and dad. Upon their passing and for almost 29 years, Cathy continued to make the house the center of daily teas with her siblings and carried on the traditions of Jiggs Dinner and cold plates on Sundays. You would never leave her house hungry as anyone who visited her would agree. She never forgot a birthday and the accompanying cake and thoughtful card. Fiercely independent, strong and fit as a fiddle, Cathy chopped her own firewood and stacked it up until just recently. She loved picking berries, walking Toby, strolling to the post office, daily trips to O’Brien's store and never missed mass on Saturday. Content, to live a quiet, simple life, her only indulgences were her cigarettes and sweets with a strong cup of tea. Throughout her life, the one constant for Cathy was her unshakeable faith. If anyone was needing prayers, Cathy was the one you asked to pray for you. For family, friends and strangers, countless prayers were offered up by her to bring comfort and peace in times of trouble. Even as she faced her own illness, her faith never faltered. The pain of our loss is soothed somewhat, knowing she is reunited with our family and loved ones gone before her.

Always loved and will be forever missed.

We extend our thanks to the staff at 6 East and 4 East, St Clare’s, Dr. Fitzgerald and her team, Dr. Wade Mercer, Bay Bulls Family Practice and all who have visited, supported and comforted Cathy in these last weeks.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Ryan’s Funeral Home, Bay Bulls on Thursday, October 2nd from 2:00 pm -8:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, Cape Broyle on Friday, October 3, 2025 at 11:00 am with inurnment to follow at the family plot in Our Lady of the Cape, Cemetery.

Flowers are gratefully accepted or donations in her memory can be made to the SPCA or the Cape Broyle Cemetery Committee.
