It is with great sadness that the family of Christina “Tina” Tuff, age 57, announce her sudden passing on April 29, 2026.
Tina was predeceased by her sister Beverly; her father, Charles; her grandparents Bernard and Annie Croft, and Maurice and Ella Tuff; her great-aunt Miranda “Big Moe” and uncle Larry White; uncles Frank and Jimmy Tuff; aunts Mary Lloyd and Elizabeth Croft; uncle and aunt Harry and Eileen Ryan; cousin, Charles Ryan; her parents-in-law Bill and Eva Stapleton; and her special nephew, Connor Stapleton.
She is lovingly remembered by her mother, Miranda Tuff; her husband of 26 years, Scott Stapleton—her biggest supporter and greatest fan; and her sisters Charlene (Ernie) Williams, Darlene (Steve) Reid, and Lori (Luke) Joyce. Tina was a devoted and proud aunt to her beloved nieces and nephews Patrick, Ryan, Brennah, Grace, Alex, Josh, and Sarah, and a cherished great-aunt to Bennett. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Jan, and her brothers-in-law Ernie (Karen) and Cam (Louise).
Tina is further survived by her special friend and mentor, Madonna Luby; a large circle of aunts, uncles, and cousins; and her colleagues and students at Mobile Central High School, all of whom will miss her dearly.
Tina’s husband, Scott, deeply appreciated her unwavering love and devotion to her family, community, and school. Their life together was rooted in support, shared values, and pride in one another.
The family extends a sincere thanks to the first responders who came to Tina’s side. Their professionalism and compassion during such a difficult moment will never be forgotten. We are also deeply grateful to the community and school staff who have supported our family through this heartbreaking time.
Tina had the honour of teaching in Cooks Harbour, Conche, Gander Bay, Fogo, Bay d’Espoir, and St. Mary’s. A proud 1986 graduate of Mobile Central High School, she returned there in 2020 as a teacher, colleague, and mentor—a full-circle journey she truly cherished.
Following her high school graduation, Tina pursued her passion for education at Memorial University, where she earned her Bachelor of Education and a degree in Special Education. Her commitment to lifelong learning and professional growth continued throughout her career, and in 2005 she completed her Master of Education.
Tina’s compassion, patience, and dedication to her students never wavered. She was one of their strongest advocates, always believing in their potential and celebrating their achievements, big and small.
She found great joy in baking and was well known for sharing her famous oatmeal chocolate chip cookies with family and friends. In her downtime, Tina could often be found cheering on the Toronto Blue Jays or Brad Gushue, depending on the season.
Tina was respected for her determination, perseverance, and light-hearted quick wit. Those who knew her well appreciated her dry humour and the way she could bring a quiet smile or laugh to any situation.
Above all, Tina was a devoted wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She genuinely cared about the people in her life and was always eager to check in, listen, and offer support. Her kindness, dedication, and presence will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
At Tina’s request, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Ryan’s Funeral Home, Bay Bulls on Wednesday, May 6th from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sts. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, Bay Bulls on Thursday, May 7, 2026 at 10:00 am with inurnment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Witless Bay.
