With heavy hearts but wonderful memories, the family of Ed Curtis of Conception Bay South, NL announce his passing at the Health Science Centre, St. John’s, NL on April 17, 2023, following a severe, unexpected illness. Ed was predeceased by his parents, Aubrey and Greta (Tucker) and his wife, Sandy Curtis (Hunter). Leaving to mourn are his loving wife, Beverly (Bev) O’Rielly, his daughter, Tonia Hartnett, Halifax and his son, Gerald Curtis, Halifax, and Bev’s daughter, Lesley Schultz, Wichita, Kansas; his sisters, Shirley Woodfine (Frank), St. John’s, Ellen Curtis (Keith Lambert), Hodge’s Cove, Jan Baker (Granville), Hillview; brothers, Arch Curtis (Christine), Hodge’s Cove, and Barry Curtis (Paula), Glenwood; grandsons, Grant Hartnett, for whom Ed was more of a father while Grant was his fishing protégé, and Cameron Taylor-Grant; nieces and nephews, Kim White, Frank Woodfine Jr., Sherri Woodfine, Krista Schmidt, Rayna Lambert, Tara Hynes, Dana Warren, Shelly Butt, Justin Baker, Glen Curtis, Lisa Cole, Carly Smith, Melissa Curtis and special great niece, Samantha Woodfine. Ed will be deeply missed by Bev’s five brothers, especially those who have known him as a friend and hunting partner for decades. He will be remembered by everyone who knew him as a true ‘outdoorsman’. He was an avid and skilled hunter and fisherman who enjoyed sharing the land’s riches and the sea’s bounty with family, friends and those fortunate enough to have him as their guide. Ed was always friendly, engaging, and talkative…a great storyteller, especially when sharing his many diverse life experiences as a small aircraft pilot, a transport truck driver and a commercial fisherman. Ed’s ‘Bumps in the Road’ article in the Downhomer magazine https://www.downhomelife.com/article.phpid=1688 well illustrated his approach to life and ready support for those in trouble. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors at Ryan’s Funeral Home, Bay Bulls on Thursday, April 20, 2023, from 2:00 – 8:00 PM. A second visitation will be held at St. Mary Church, Hodge’s Cove at 1:00 PM, Friday, April 21, 2023. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM followed by a reception. For those who wish to do so, donations in Ed’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The family thanks the medical staff of the Health Sciences Complex for their care and compassion for Ed and his family during the past few days. Sharing of memories and condolences may be sent to the family by visiting the online memorial at Ryan’s Funeral Home at ryansfuneralservices.com.
