Eleanor Nolan Obituary

Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre on Monday, March 25th, 2025, Eleanor Nolan, age 82 years, residing at Heritage Square Retirement Living, Long Pond.

She was predeceased by her parents; Mary and Herbert Nolan of Mount Carmel, SMB., sister, Theresa Bruce of Goose Bay, brother, George of Gander and brother-in-law, Aloysius Dean of Sydney, Nova Scotia.

Left to mourn her deep loss with loving memories are her sisters: Mercedes of Toronto, Joan Dean and her sons; Kurt and Scott and their families in Sydney, Halifax and Phoenix, her devoted brother, Don (Jenny) of Goulds, their son, Mark (Quyen) of Calgary, and their daughter Lana (Matt Williams) and their children; Conor and Matthew who were the joy of Eleanor’s life.  Her brother-in-law Clarence Bruce of Goose Bay, his son Brian Bruce of Austin, Texas and his family, his daughter, Brenda Smith of PEI husband, Wade and family. Sister-in-law; Shirley Nolan of Gander and her daughter Carla Harenski of New Mexico husband, Keith and family, son Gary Nolan, St. John’s, wife Madison and family her special long time friends;  Lenora Walsh and husband Dave of St. John’s, her special cousin and frequent visitors, Brian and Madonna Nolan of St. Johns, Geri Doherty and partner Ron Power, daughters Susanna and Erin Doherty and Ron’s family, her book club and curling club friends who shared many good times, as well as many extended cousins and friends.

Eleanor graduated from St Clare’s as an RN and devoted her life to her profession with pride and care. Her travels took her to many countries nursing then returning to St. John’s to work at Heath Canada until retirement. She continued caring for people volunteering at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home and other care homes sharing her time with people in need. Her commitment was recognized and she was presented with The Order of Canada, an honor she was so worthy to receive. Eleanor was a devoted catholic with a strong faith. She will be remembered for her kind and gentle and caring person to everyone who knew her. Eleanor’s last five years were spent at Heritage Square Retirement Living, Long Pond where she lived a very active and fulfilled life. Thank you to the excellent caring team: Allison, Karen, Claire, Wayne and Dr. Verge. We also want to thank Dr. Claire Skanes, Dr. Kennedy and the staff at Emergency, especially Stephen and staff at 4 South for the excellent care.

At Eleanor’s request, cremation has taken place. Resting at Ryan’s Funeral Home, Bay Bulls. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 28th from 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Kevin’s Catholic Parish, Goulds on Saturday, March 29th, 2025 at 10:30 am. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Mount Carmel. SMB.

Due to it being the season of Lent, no flowers by request, donations in Eleanor’s memory may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery Committee.
