It is with broken hearts but loving memories that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. Ellen (Nellie) Hayes (nee Harvey) of Brigus South, passed peacefully away at St. Clare’s Hospital in St. John’s surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, September 30th, 2023. Predeceased by her husband, Francis, parents Thomas and Amelia Harvey, her parents-in-law, Daniel and Mary Hayes, siblings Gerard Harvey, Rose Anne Arnold, and Dermot Aspell.
Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of loving memories, her children, Arlene, Jocelyn (Walter), Anne Marie, Bernadette (Dan), Gerard (Wendi), Danny (Kathy), Valerie (Hank), Gwen (Chris); her devoted grandchildren, Blair (Danielle), Karl (Stephanie), Shawn (Jessica), Justin, Brandi (Cordell), Brittany (Karl), Breanna, Barry (Brianna), Taylor, Dylan, Jada, Georgia, Francis and great-grandchildren Bethany, Cadence, Cambria, Memory and her newest little love, Nellie; her beloved siblings, Dom and Ned Harvey; special niece Mildred Molloy and a large circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and dear friends.
Nellie was known for her kindness and compassion. She was fiercely strong but deeply gentle and humble. She was relentlessly loyal to her family and friends. She was hard working and generous to all. A simple woman who loved a cup of tea, slice of toast, game of cards and bingo and her family to her core. She loved to have people gathered around her table, eating, telling stories and laughing.
The family would like to extend their sincerest appreciation to the staff and residents of Alderwood Retirement Centre who for the past six months, made Nellie’s time there wonderful.
Cremation has taken place. Burial to follow at a later date.
