It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Francis Matthew Tobin on August 2, 2025 at the age of 63 years.
He was predeceased by his parents; Peter who passed in 1995 and Helen in 2004.
Leaving to mourn with loving memories is his beloved daughter Tara Ewing (Grayson) and his only grandson Kai, who was the absolute light of his world. Sister, Linda Tobin (Gerard) and brother Matthew Tobin.
He also leaves behind a chosen family of close friends: Allan Carey, Glen and Brenda Tobin, Danny and Diane Hennessey, Leonard and Jeanette McCormack, Conrad and Jessica Jordan, Don Healey, Dennis White, Loyola Kenny and Eddie Ryan. Not to mention the friends and co workers of the Barry Group in Witless Bay where he was employed for 45 years, proudly announcing his retirement this year.
He was deeply loved by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him - not just for what he did, but for who he was.
Francis was a man of quiet strength, quick wit, and a huge open heart. He was the kind of person who’d give you the shirt off his back without hesitation - a loyal friend, a gentle soul and the life of every cabin party. Whether he was trouting on the pond, playing with his grandson, or blasting a concert loud enough to shake the harbour, Francis found joy in life’s simple moments and notoriously ensured everyone surrounding him did too.
Creative and endlessly skilled, there wasn’t much he couldn’t build or fix, he was known for paying meticulous attention to detail in any carpentry project, in drawings or just simple conversation, he approached everything he did with care, empathy and heart.
To know Francis was to love him. And while we feel this loss deeply, we find comfort in knowing he’s somewhere now, catching up with family and old friends - smiling down on us with a cold drink and that warm smile.
Cremation has taken place, resting at Ryan’s Funeral Home, Bay Bulls. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2025 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a private graveside service to follow at a later date.
