James Corcoran Obituary
Corcoran, James Vincent - passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family in his 79th year. “Jimmy” Corcoran of Trepassey leaves to mourn his loving wife of 53 years, Evelyn. Dear father of Cordell (Heather), Denis (Bea), Trent (Tammy). Patient Poppy to Justina, Brianna, Jack, Neil, Miles, Nick, Toni, Bethany and Nathan. Great Poppy to Finn and Atlas. Dear brother of Nettie (late Bill), Peggy (late John), Ed (Linda), Hilda (Ed). Brother in law of Kenneth (Margie), Mary Ann (Jim), Max (Joanne), Patricia (late Ted), Vince (Carol), Trudy (Ernie) and Jeannine. He will be missed by his many nieces, nephews and friends.
Pre-deceased by his parents Genevieve and Patrick Corcoran, stepmother Catherine, brother Patrick, brothers in law Allan, Gerard, Barry, father and mother in law Patrick and Josephine Sutton.
Jimmy was well known as a jack of all trades. Whether he was working in the mines, the fishery, building houses or any other task, one could always be sure that if Jimmy was on the job, it would be quality work. While it took some effort to convince him to retire at the age of 70, he always maintained a drive to get things done!
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, a lively game of cards and darts. In his later years, he was seldom without his little dog and companion, Izzy. He took pride in watching his sons play sports and at the same time, supported an entire generation of youngsters - driving to and fro from the rink, the ball field, basketball trips and dances. He gave generously to all, making time for daily ice cream runs with Dawn, baking cookies with Justina, and coaching Brianna in dance as she stepped it out for him as a little girl.
He was a quiet man whose patience and kindness put everyone around him at ease. His eyes could fill with a mischievous sparkle that kept us all wondering what he was really thinking. Jimmy was a man of few words, yet never a day passed that he did not express appreciation for his “Evey”. Through his gentle manner, he taught us the values of love and respect.
Heartfelt appreciation to the staff at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home for their compassion and kindness. Special thank you to Father Peter Golden for years of love and support.
Funeral mass will be held at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Trepassey on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at 1:00PM. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Newfoundland and Labrador would be appreciated.
