It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Janet Lundrigan, age 70, of Witless Bay, on May 25, 2023. Janet died surrounded by those she loved, who have been left with a lifetime of beautiful memories.
She was pre-deceased by her parents William and Madeline Metcalfe Power, her son Adam Lundrigan, brother Billy Power, sister Rosalind Carey, special friend Jack Carey and members of the Lundrigan, Power and Carey families.
Janet was an amazing wife and mother and leaves to mourn with broken hearts, her husband Larry, daughter Jennifer Aspell (Mark), sons Allan Carey (Sherry Toope) and Chris Lundrigan (Tawnya L’Heureux). Janet’s grandchildren, Heidi and Zachary Aspell, Faith Hanlon Carey and Cruze Rhoades were the light of her life, and she loved them beyond measure. She was the absolute best Nanny in the world. Janet was also very lucky to have shared over 40 wonderful years of friendship with Audrey and John O’Rielly and had a very special bond with their daughters Jane and Erin, most-affectionately known as Nana’s girls.
She also leaves to mourn brothers Bob Power (Maureen), Frank Power (Tan) and Sean Power (Lisa); sisters Rose Howes, June Nayler, Isabel Croke (Mick), Trudy Power and Madlyn Carew; sisters-in-law Margie Keating (Alex), Annie Harrigan (Alfie), Beatrice Dowden (Bob), Anita Lundrigan, Alice Lundrigan, Anne Marie Lundrigan, Margie Lundrigan, Isabel Puddister, Anne Coady (Ted) and Mary Boland (Wilf); brothers-in-law Tom Carey, Lawrence Carey (Doreen), Harry Carey (Donna), Aloysius Carey (Carolyn) as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends who held a special place in Janet’s heart.
Special thanks are extended to Janet’s medical team for their care and compassion over the past few months including Dr. Rodney McCarthy and the staff of Bay Bulls Family Practice, Dr. Louise Rogers and Nicole Power-Sharpe.
Janet was kind and humble and left a mark on the lives of countless people through her presence. She worked for several years at the St. Bernard’s Elementary School Lunch Program and former students that have long-since graduated high school still talk about Janet’s cooking and how she was so caring toward them – she made everyone feel special. Janet was also well known for her baking, which she shared with people throughout the community. She always made sure that someone who was sick or just needed a thoughtful gesture received their favorite cake or pie or a batch of her famous jam buns. She was always looking for ways to help others and make people happy and lived by the belief that “If you can be anything in this world be kind”. Through her life she made this world a better place.
