Jerome Harte Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Jerome Francis Harte announces the peaceful passing of our loving spouse, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, age 77 years, surrounded by his family at the Health Sciences Center. Predeceased by his parents Stephen and Mercedes, sisters Mary Agatha and Ann Marie, brothers Austin, John (Vera) and infant brother Douglas, Parents in-law Cecil and Catherine O’Brien, infant brother-in-law Reginald, sisters-in-law Delma O’Brien, and Vera Harte.

Leaving to mourn with everlasting loving memories his loving wife of 51 years, Nancy (nee O’ Brien), his children, Paul (Shannon Finn), Julie (Paul LeBlanc), treasured granddaughters Olivia and Arielle Harte and Bridget LeBlanc, brothers Derm (Mary), Ronnie (Trudy) and sister Maureen Murphy (Albert), sister-in-law Noreen (Whittle) Harte as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and a large circle of friends and relatives.

Jerome was an Electrician by trade, well known and respected by many. He loved the outdoors especially the ATV trips up the country with his brothers and buddies, tending his garden and taking daily walks, where he loved to stop for a chat with those he met along the way. He loved his community, served as a member of the original Southern Shore Arena Committee and was a founding member of the Witless Bay Fire Department, of which he was proud to serve for over 20 years.

Jerome’s love of music was reflective in the many groups he played bass guitar with over the years, starting with Ed, Fred and the HARTEBEATS, Medicine Jar and Sandels. In recent years he thoroughly enjoyed playing gigs at the Alderwood Estates Retirement Centre, bringing joy to the seniors of surrounding communities.

A sincere and heartfelt thank you to Dr. Rod McCarthy, Dr. Joe Lockyer, and Dr. Brad Hayley for their ongoing care over the past several years. Also, a special thank you to Dr. Mary O’Brien and her ER staff, the nurses of 4th Floor North A, Health Sciences Centre, the Paramedics and the Witless Bay Volunteer Fire Department. We are especially thankful to Father Joe Mroz and Monsignor Pat Kennedy for their ministry and visitations.
