Jerome "Romie" Carew Obituary

It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved brother Jerome (Romie) Carew, age 71 years. Romie passed peacefully, surrounded by family on Friday, October 31, 2025 at the Health Sciences Centre. He was a loving brother, uncle, great-uncle, brother-in-law, and friend.

Pre-deceased by parents Patrick J. and Essie (nee Armstrong) Carew; brother-in-law Gerry O’Brien, and sister-in-law Sandra Carey.

He is survived by his six siblings whose bond was unbreakable and who now mourn the loss of one of their own: Brothers John (Mary) and Tom (Joanne); sisters Lucy (Anne), Tilly, Trish, and Elizabeth (Paul). Nephews Mark (Sherrilynn), Robin (Megan), and Andrew (Rebecca); Nieces Suzanne (Chris), Frances (Regan), Erin (Blake), Jessica (Stephen), Ashley (Eugene), Allison; many great-nieces and nephews, aunt Mary O’Brien, and many great friends and neighbors.

Romie was loved by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Everyone was a friend; he loved music and was always up for a good time with family and friends. His life was filled with love, laughter, and joy. He loved his family and was always the life of the party, whether that be a family get together or just having a quick lunch with him. He loved when his nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews came to visit. He always had a stash of treats for the kids. Romie’s recall was unmatched. He would sit for hours with us and give a history lesson about Witless Bay, its events and residents. He knew every family’s history; the who, what, when, where, and why about everything.Romie leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work and strength. May he rest peacefully knowing his work here is done and his family carries forward his strength and spirit. He was one of a kind.

We would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the Health Sciences Center ICU, CCU, and emergency department as well as the ambulance attendants. A special thank you to the Witless Bay Volunteer Fire Department for their rapid response and compassionate care. Thank you to his home care worker Wanda Williams, he always looked forward to your visits.
