Johannah Carew Obituary

It is with broken hearts and deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful and precious mom, Johannah Carew, at the age of 85. Surrounded by her loving family and her dedicated Alderwood Family, she joined heavens' angels on Sunday, August 4th, 2024.

She was predeceased by her parents; Michael and Helena (nee Lahey) O’Brien, brother Robert, sister Evelyn and lifelong friends; Charlie and Anna O’Brien.

Left with fond and loving memories are her children: Donna, Wayne (Wanda Lee), Jeff and Lisa (Chris), grandchildren: Ryan, Blake, Kaitlyn, Abigail, Noah, Maggie, (and their mother Tina), and Mckenna. Special friend, Agnes Walsh, who cared for our mom and made it possible for her to enjoy her last few years in her family home in Cape Broyle.

Our Mom lived a very simple life. She enjoyed spending time with her friends for a chat and a nice cup of hot tea accompanied by a “smoke”. She spent her younger years working in the Witless Bay plant providing and caring for her family. At the age of 79, she moved to Alderwood Estates where she lived some of her best golden years, attending social functions, joining the Local Vocals and meeting new friends. She loved listening to music and could sing a tune or two herself. She loved the beauty of flowers and always had some on special occasions. Mom was very proud of her family and their accomplishments and enjoyed being surrounded by their photographs to admire and praise. She truly was a rare and special lady who enjoyed the simple side of life.

To our sweetheart Yvonne Oates, mom’s roommate, your gentle ways and kind heart will never be forgotten. Special thanks to Betty Swain for your visits and chats, on a daily basis you always brought a sweet smile to her face.

Heartfelt thanks to Debbie Dunne, Kim Hartery, and the amazing Alderwood team, You were her second family, she loved all of you and shared a special and unique bond with each of you. Thanks for all the love, laughter and joy you brought to her life over the past 6-7 years and for all the music and songs, she enjoyed singing with you each day. Her life was enriched by each of you.

Special thanks to Dr. Dennis O’Keefe for always supporting us and making mom's face light up with your smart and sharp dress code.
