Johannah "Joan" Mary (née Duggan) Dalton

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Joan Dalton (née Duggan), age 85 years. Joan passed away peacefully at St. Clare’s Hospital, surrounded by her loving family, on October 7, 2025.

She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Alphonsus; her parents, Patrick and Bridget Duggan (Lahey); sisters Mary Duncan and Jose Carew; brothers: John, Michael, Cyril, Edward, William and Kevin; as well as brothers and sisters-in-law of the Duggan and Dalton families.

Left with loving memories are her children: Gerry (Yvonne), Paul (Leanna), Joanne (Leonard), Phonsie (Georgina) and Keith (Lori); grandchildren: Alex, Kelsey (Mark), Daniel (Ashley), Blake (Kristyn), Brianna (Evan), Gracie (Carter), Ethan, Lachlan, Grady and Raegan; and great-grandchildren: Abel, Adalynn, Cohen and Carter. She will also be dearly missed by her brother-in-law, Paddy sisters-in-law; Essie and Cathy, numerous close family members as well as many special nieces and nephews with whom she shared countless treasured moments.

Mom was a hard-working woman who never shied away from a challenge. She took great joy in cooking for a crowd and baking her famous brown sugar cookies and raisin cake, which were loved by all. She enjoyed a good game of cards, a hearty laugh, and was known for her warm and contagious smile. In recent years, Mom made her home at Alderwood Estates, where she embraced outings, dances and activities, always bringing joy to those around her.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to relatives in Cape Broyle and beyond, whose visits brightened Mom’s days. Thank you to the staff and residents of Alderwood Estates for their compassionate care and kindness, as well as the staff at St. Clare’s, especially on 4 East.

Joan will be forever remembered for her strength, her laughter, and her love. May she rest peacefully, reunited with those she held dear.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Ryan’s Funeral Home, Bay Bulls on Sunday, October 19 from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 20, 2025 from Immaculate Conception Church, Cape Broyle at 11:00 am with inurnment to follow at Our Lady of the Cape Cemetery, Cape Broyle. A celebration of Joan’s life will take place at the Cape Broyle Community Centre following the inurnment.

Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in Joan’s memory may be made to Breakfast Program at Baltimore School or St. Bernard’s Elementary.
