Joseph Eli Budden
(January 21st, 1941 to January 18th, 2024)
Born on January 21st, 1941, Joseph Eli Budden went suddenly, but peacefully, home on January 18th, 2024, just a few days short of his 83rd birthday. Predeceased by his parents Enslem and Caroline Budden, loving partner Mary Carey, brothers Eric and Winston Budden, Brother-in-laws Leo Puddester and Alex Goulding, great-niece Arial Rose Langdon and niece-in-law Ellen MacPhee.
Leaving to mourn are his children Jamie (Rebecca) of Whitbourne, Jodie (Tammy)
of Bonnyville, Alberta, and daughter Caroline of Whitbourne. He will also be deeply missed by his sisters Ruby (Don Tate) and Elsie; brothers George (Barbara), and David Budden; sister-in-law Joan Budden; granddaughter Jessie and grandsons Gordon, Justin and Tyresse and other members of the Budden family.
Joe spent the last 30 years of his life in Bay Bulls where he made a beautiful life with his devoted partner, Mary. With this partnership he also gained a second family, whom he loved as though they were his own. Left to mourn are Mary’s sisters Bernadette Puddester and Donna O’Brien, and their children; Krista Puddester (Kris Langdon), Carla O’Brien (Neal Alderson), Stephen O’Brien, and Leah Puddester (Blair Paul). Joe’s great-nieces and nephews adored him and looked forward to his frequent Facetime calls, annual piggy bank giftings, keeping track of goals scored, and to creating special memories with them on their trips to Bay Bulls. Kieran, Marrin, Lucy, Declan, Nora, Eilidh, Aoife, Keir and Bodhi will miss their “Joe Budden” for his stories and ever-present kindness.
The community of Bay Bulls will also feel the absence of “The Whitbourne Kid”, especially the close friends he made, as he will be visibly absent from his evening trips to the wharf for a meet-up and a yarn. Although our hearts are broken that Joe passed so soon after Mame, we are comforted to know that he and Mame are together again.
