It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Josephine Maloney at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital on August 4th, 2024, at the age of 85.
Josephine was predeceased by her husband and father of their children, Benedict Maloney, sons Benedict Jr. Maloney, and Fabian Maloney, Parents; Stephen and Catherine (nee Hayes) Yard, stepfather, Phonse O’Brien, parents-in-law, Florence and Benedict Maloney and her second husband, John Power.
Josephine is survived by her devoted sons; Stephen (Kim) and Fintan (Lisa), cherished grandchildren: Stephanie, Mitchell, Brandon (Alicia), Victoria (Kyle) and her precious great-grandchild, Jack Gruchy, whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by her loving sisters; Mary (Denie) Stratton and Sue (Billy) Stratton and brother Cy O’Brien (Maxine), sister-in-law, Genevieve (Bill) Dunphy, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews and many dear friends including Tom Power whom she enjoyed playing a game of cards with.
A dedicated schoolteacher for over 30 years, Josephine was known for her passion for education and commitment to her students. Her contributions to her community extended beyond the classroom.
Josephine’s warmth, gentle mannerism and generosity will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
We would like to thank the nurses, physicians and staff from St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital for their compassionate care during her short stay along with Dr. Rodney McCarthy for being Josephine's family doctor for many years.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Ryan’s Funeral Home, Bay Bulls on Sunday, August 18th from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A Graveside Service will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, Witless Bay on Monday, August 19th, 2024 at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Josephine's memory may be made to Holy Cross Cemetery, Witless Bay or to a charity of your choice.
