It is with great sadness and broken hearts we announce the passing of Josephine Vickers of Witless Bay in her 80th year. Passed peacefully away at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital after a lengthy illness with Dementia and for the past couple of months Cancer. Predeceased by her husband Vincent, parents Thomas and Josephine Armstrong; sisters Monica Hollohan (Kevin), Catherine Hollohan (Leo); brothers Bill Armstrong, Tom Joe Armstrong, Robert Armstrong; sisters-in-law Regina Armstrong, Mildred Norris (Ambrose), Irene Healy (Gerard), Bess Riland (Tom); brothers-in-law Herman Vickers (Patricia), and Bill Vickers.
Leaving to mourn with everlasting memories are her children Wanda, Jillian (Kenny); her most treasured grandchildren who were her world, Brooklyn (Louis), James and Wyatt; special niece Lisa Boone, who was like another daughter and who took care of her the last 4 years; brothers Jimmy Armstrong (Bonita), Louie Armstrong (Anita), Francis (Kathy); sisters-in-law Lena Armstrong, Jean Armstrong and Agnes Armstrong, sisters-in-law from the Vickers family, Bertha (late Alec Williams) and Margaret (late Jack Roache). Also leaving to mourn many special nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends Kevin Lundrigan (Brooklyn and James’ Dad), Florence Vickers and Lucy Carew and all her friends she made over the years at Bingo and Community functions. Special mention to her lifelong friend/sister-in-law Anita Armstrong for always being there for her in both the good times and the bad.
A sincere thank you to the Home Dementia Team, Dr. Roger Butler and Nurse Practitioner Jennifer Williams, who have helped our family tremendously through Mom’s journey. Also special thanks to Dr. Angel, Nurse Nicole Sharpe and the staff of the Fourth Floor St. Clare’s. Thank you to Mom’s support workers, Mary Jane O’Brien, Helen Carey and Wanda Williams. The care and love you gave Mom over the years will never be forgotten.
Visitation to be held at Ryan’s Funeral Home in Bay Bulls on Sunday, August 27th from 2-9pm. Funeral service at St. Patrick’s RC Church, Witless Bay on Monday, August 28th at 10:00am. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Witless Bay. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations can be made in Mom’s memory to The Provincial Home Dementia Care Program at Healthcare Foundation, 71 Goldstone Street, Suite 103, St. John’s, NL A1B 5C3
