It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, (Mary) Annie Power (nee Nolan) (age 93), passed peacefully away on December 3, 2024.
Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her daughters, Patsy, Elizabeth (Leo), Jeanette, Diane, Mary and her son, Fred (Marie). Her sisters, Isabel Del Bianco (Montreal) and Irene Reiter (Mississippi). Granny loved her grandchildren; John, Tina, Jason, Jimmy, Chris, Darrell, Kevin, Cory, Jenny, Lisa, Wanda, Shawn, Denise, Stephanie, David, Kim, and Mary-Ann, her great grandchildren; Jesse, Stephanie, Cole, Mason, Amber, Dawson, Jayda, Michiaiah, Madelyn, Nora, Brianna, Jenna, Alicia, Brianna, Katelyn, Sophia, Liam, Emma, Hailey, Michael, MacKenzie, and Madison and her great great-grandchild, Chase Hayden. Annie also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, including special nieces and nephews, Joyce Gregory, Gerry Phelan, Andre Phelan, Ann Marie Carew, Stephen Nolan and her cousin Sister Dorothy Baird. She had many friends and loved her game of bingo and had many bingo friends, especially Margie Coady and Geraldine Williams, who would drive her to bingo and make sure she got home safely.
She was predeceased by her husband – Austin Power; her parents; Edward and Mary Bridget Nolan; her sisters - Madonna Nolan, Violet McGrath, Margaret (Harry) Phelan, Rita (Gordon) Penney; her brother - Steve (Nattie) Nolan; her son-in-law’s – Cletus O’Brien, Edwin Dowden, Gus McCarthy and Thomas Carter, and her cousins - Irene and Madonna Baird.
Annie came to Bay Bulls in the 1940’s and began working at the Sisters of Mercy convent. After raising her family, she worked as a plant worker in Bay Bulls and Tors Cove, until her retirement. She worked hard raising her children and always had a smile and welcomed everyone to her home and always had a job for them.
God blessed her in being able to live in her own home up to approximately two months ago which she took great pride in maintaining her independence. She kept in touch with people by phoning them and she enjoyed receiving cards and letters in the mail from family, especially her nephew Andre. She looked forward to having John deliver mail and her groceries. She would always have a “message” for John to deliver and she looked forward to Jason coming home from work, since he was her “Mr. Fix-it”. She appreciated everything people did for her. She was also known as an avid knitter and knitted numerous blankets for everyone in the family. Each member of the family will cherish their blanket and will remember her every time they are wrapped in one of her blankets. Her love for her family and friends kept her going and it is the love of her family and friends that will keep her memory alive. She had a strong faith with a devotion to the rosary and saying her prayers daily.
Thank you to Dr. Rod McCarthy, Father Philip Melvin and Sister Betty Morrissey for their many visits at the hospital and the Palliative Care Unit at the Miller Centre.
