Marie Collins Obituary

It is with broken hearts and the deepest of sorrow, we announce the passing of our beautiful, loving mother Marie Collins on July 9, 2025 at the age of 69.  We would also like to acknowledge with great sorrow the passing of Marie’s Partner in life Kenny Vickers.  Both Marie and Kenny are now at peace together with their loved ones.  At this time we would also like to extend our deepest condolences to the Vicker’s Family for the loss of Kenny as he will be greatly missed.

Left to mourn her daughter Valerie Freake (Adam) and son Geoffrey Sweeney, her beautiful grandchildren whom she loved so very deeply Haylee Freake (Ian), Carter Freake, Ava Sweeney and Ben Sweeney, her siblings Marg (Vince), Leo (Jessie), Loretta (Allen), Fred (Libby), Leo (Hazel), Ruby (Dean), Gerald (Peggy), Debbie (Paul), Elizabeth (Bill), Susan (Harold), Colleen and Larry.  As well as four special nephews in her life Bobby Grouchy, Danny Grouchy, Jason Grouchy and Stephen Grouchy whom she loved so very much.  As well as her very close family and friends Michelle Drisdelle, Rosemary Ivany, Glen Ivany, Bonnie Wakeham and Julie McGrath who she loved deeply.  Marie shared her life with so many special people that will truly miss her.

Marie is predeceased by her loving parents; Jack and Martha Williams and Lawrence and Ethel Penton as well as her beautiful siblings; Rosemary Grouchy, and Mary Celina.

Marie will be remembered for her kindness, empathy, strength and deep devotion to her family and friends. Her warmth and care touched everyone who knew her.  Marie cared for others selflessly without hesitation often putting others needs before her own and she would have it no other way, her love was unconditional and without judgement.  Her generosity and warm spirit touched the lives of many in her life and community. Marie helped where she could and without hesitation, whether it was volunteering for the Kinsmen, helping with the school lunch programs at St. Bernard’s, making cold plates or a fish fry for the staff, hosting year end socials with a great game of cornhole which she loved, making bread and the best toutons for the year end school breakfast.  Marie loved to make people happy and you felt very at home when around her as she lit up the room.  She was always ready to help with anything and for anyone without hesitation.  She loved all of the people in her life whether you were family, friend, co-worker or neighbor she was there to help if you needed her.   The positive impact she had on the lives of those who knew her will stay with us forever.  There are no words to describe how greatly she will be missed and forever loved.  Her love and guidance will remain in our hearts forever.  She was truly one of the greatest!

Cremation has taken place and a service to honor her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Bernard’s School Breakfast Club in Witless Bay, a school and staff that was near and dear to her heart. www.kidseatsmart.ca/donate-now/   Click your donation amount, under the drop down tab for Fund select St. Bernard’s Elementary Witless Bay

Rest in peace mom and know you were loved beyond measure and were the best Mother, Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Friend that anyone could ask for.  The world is a little less bright without you in it Mom.  We love you to the moon and back.
