Mary Swain Obituary
Born September 8, 1938, Mary (Carmel) Swain of Calvert went peacefully home on December 3, 2023, at the age of 85.
Predeceased by her loving husband, Peter, parents Peter and Esther Power, siblings John, Francis and Alice, sisters-in-law Irene, Agnes, Margaret, Dorothy, Genevieve, Ella, Madonna, brothers-in-law Joe, Aiden, Alfred, Fred, Kevin, Ambrose and Leo, and her beloved grandparents James and Alice Murphy.
Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her children Brendan (Brenda), Thomas (Catherine), Clifford (Wanda) and Rosalie (David), grandchildren Jonathon (Ashlene), Melissa (Johnny), Matthew (Melanie), Kaitlin (Lyndsay), Michael (Allyssa), Brittany (Seamus), Ryan (Cynthia), Tyler and Devin, great-grandchildren Nathan, Jorgia, Brooklyn, Liam, Abigail, Paisley, Jayde, Cyrenne and Jazmine, siblings Clotilda, Catherine (John), Margie (Reg), Viola (Eddy), Jerome, Wilfred (Catherine), and Alfie (Annie), in-laws Marie, Betty (Phonse), Reg (Margie), and her most cherished friend, neighbor and cousin, Betty.
Special thanks to Carmel’s Alderwood Estate family and her Dialysis Unit family, who were such an important part of her life.
Visitation at Ryan’s Funeral Home, Bay Bulls on Thursday, December 7, 2023, from 2:00pm-9:00pm. Funeral will be held on Friday, December 8, 2023, at 1:00pm at Immaculate Conception RC Church, Calvert. Interment to follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Ferryland.
A celebration of Carmel’s life will be held at the Squid Jigger in Calvert, following interment.
Flowers gratefully accepted, or donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation in Carmel’s honour.

If Roses grow in Heaven,
Lord please pick a bunch for me,
Place them in my Mother’s arms
and tell her they’re from me.
Tell her I love her and miss her,
and when she turns to smile,
place a kiss upon here cheek
and hold her for awhile.
Because remembering her is easy,
I do it every day,
But there’s an ache within my heart
that will never go away.
