On Tuesday, March 10, 2026, the world became a little sadder, a little less happy, but a lot more grateful for having been a part of Maureen Ann Power’s life. Surrounded by her loving family and close friend, Maureen left this world peacefully, after a short battle of ALS.
Maureen leaves to mourn her loving and devoted husband, Barry Power, and her beautiful children whom she loved more than life itself: Tyler (Emily), Jessica (Dan), and Ryan (Haley).
She also leaves behind her sister and best friend, Michelle (Darren) O’Keefe; her baby brother, Walter (Alaine) Power; and her beautiful niece, Christa.
Also mourning her loss are her in-laws: Randy (Dianne Melvin) Power; their son Blaine, his wife Rebecca and their children Olivia, Lily, and Liam; Debbie (Rom Dalton) Power and her children David and Holly Maher; and Valerie (Don Molloy) Power.
Maureen also leaves behind her lifetime friend, who was more like a sister, Martha Melvin, and her family, Jimmy, Joshua, and Kianna Brazil.
She was surrounded by many wonderful friends, including her closest friends Joan O’Driscoll, Colleen Melvin, and Colleen Dalton; her lifelong friends Debbie St. Croix and Diane White; and her work friends Regina Bartlett, Kyla Walsh, and Jeannie Eustace.
Maureen will also be deeply missed by her greatest companion and loyal protector, Marley.
She was predeceased by her father and mother, Walter and Anita (O’Keefe) Power, and by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Don and Violet (Stone) Power.
Maureen will be missed immensely by all who knew her. She was beautiful inside and out, incredibly funny, the life of every gathering, and had the most infectious laugh that could fill an entire room. It was impossible to stay in a bad mood when you were around Maureen—she always found a way to make you smile or laugh until your belly hurt.
After her diagnosis, Maureen became quieter, but she still found ways to bring laughter to those around her during her struggle. Her biggest concern was always her children; every decision she made was for them. During this diagnosis, they became her greatest support, standing by her every day and helping with whatever she needed.
Maureen’s strength during this terrible disease was remarkable. She never complained and remained thankful for everyone who helped her, facing everything with grace and a smile.
Maureen was fortunate to grow up in a community that truly becomes family when tragedy strikes. Her family cannot thank the people of the Southern Shore and their small community enough for the overwhelming support Maureen received during the past six months. From the money raised to help Maureen and her family, to the food brought to the house daily, to close friends helping clean the house, do her hair, and set up and take down Christmas decorations. The texts, phone calls, and messages were all overwhelming at times. Maureen was loved beyond measure, and that love was deeply felt throughout her final months. We would also like to especially thank Diane & Krista Williams and their family for their support over the last few months. We will never be able to thank you enough for the equipment you have lent to us for Maureen. You guys are amazing. To the staff from 4 North A and the staff at ICU, in the short time we spent with you, you were nothing but kind and so good to Maureen. Thank you so much.
At Maureen’s request, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Ryan's Funeral Home, Bay Bulls on Sunday, March 15th from 1:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
