Michael Cahill Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael (Mikie) Joseph Cahill, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and treasured community member. After a courageous battle with cancer, he passed away peacefully at the age of 69, surrounded by his family and friends.

Michael was predeceased by his parents; Jack and Hilda Cahill, brother, Pat Cahill, mother-in-law, Irene and father-in-law, John G. Power, special niece, Linda Cahill, as well as other beloved family members.

Left with heavy hearts but loving memories are his wife of 46 years, Debby Cahill, their three children: Chris (Heather), Michelle (Liam) and Seren Rachel (Sarah), cherished grandchildren: Sadie, Mason, Maeve and Cooper. He also leaves to mourn his five sisters: Mary (Medie), Carm (Pat), Bridie (Bob), Hilda (Gerard) and Phyllis (Roger), four brothers: John (Blanche), Robert (Brenda, deceased), Gussie and Vessie (Sandra), sisters-in-law; Brenda (Brendan), Sandra and Carol O’Brien, brothers-in-law: Junior (Marion), Allan (Helen), Terry (Chrystal), Fabian (Bun) and Ronnie (Amanda), many nieces, nephews, extended family members and a large circle of friends.

Mike had a strong love for his community of Witless Bay. He was a founding member of the Town Council, the local Kinsmen Club. He provided support for the Ken Williams Southern Shore Arena and was a driving force in the establishment of the Harbour Authority. He took great pride in supporting many community events and was always there to lend a helping hand.

For the past 40 years Mike has operated his own commercial refrigeration business, Cabot Refrigeration. This business allowed him to travel all through the province and meet many people and make many friends along the way. He worked very hard to provide for his family and after many years, was able to enjoy all of the things he loved.

Mike was a true outdoorsman. He loved being on the water, fishing or deep in the country, hunting and trouting with his buddies. He had many fond memories of hunting trips and spoke about them often.

Mike was happiest when he was surrounded by his brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and lifelong friends. Sharing music, telling tales, there was always love and laughter in his presence.

Mike’s proudest accomplishment was his family. He always wanted to raise his children in Witless Bay and ensured that they were able to continue to raise their families there as well. He loved having them close by and cherished every visit from his grandchildren. He was so proud of their accomplishments and loved to cheer them on.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all those who have provided guidance and support including Dr. Siddiqui and staff of Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre. His family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Rod McCarthy for his unwavering support and kindness. Mike would not have gotten through this difficult time without the love of family, friends and colleagues.
