Nellie Melvin) Obituary
Passed peacefully and surrounded by her family on January 5th, 2023, to be with her darling husband and son, Nellie (nee Melvin) Colbert, 90 years of age, of St. Michael’s. Nellie is the daughter of the late John Thomas and Catherine Melvin of La Manche Village and daughter- in- law of the late Anne and Peter Colbert of St Michael’s. Predeceased by her husband Tom (2007) and son Bernie (2012), her siblings Mary (George) Colbert, Bernie, Cyril, Alfred (Matilda), Sam (Rita) Melvin, Genevieve (Gerard) Power, Sisters and brothers- in- law Anne (William) Tee, Mary Elizabeth (Michael) Gatherall, Amelia (Matt) Colbert, Margaret (Louis) Melvin, Gerald (Margie) Colbert, Michael (Rita) Colbert and Patrick (Susan) Ryan.
Leaving to celebrate her life with fond and precious memories are her devoted and loving children; Gerard (Karen), Bernice (Stephen) Doyle, Ruth (Pat) Williams, Andrew (Novalee), Linda, Geraldine and daughter- in- law Tish Colbert (who has been a great source of comfort as family and as a nurse).
Nan also leaves to mourn her 13 grandchildren whom she adored; Kerri, Ashley (Greg), Charlene (Regan), Beverly, Bradley (Katherine), Grant (Melissa), Brian (Kayla), Wayne, Kayla (Matt), Brandon (April), Kyle, Kalista and Declan and 15 great grandchildren, the lights of her life; Liam, Isla, Sofi , Kelton, Rowan, Quinn, Avery, Molly, Brianna, Edie, Keeghan, Lacey, Myla, Justice and Kyra.
Also left to mourn are sisters- in- law Mary and Marie Melvin, a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
A heartfelt thank you to Dr Rod McCarthy who not only kept her going with excellent medical care, but with a great sense of humour that she dearly loved. To our “angel”, public health nurse Nicole Power-Sharpe for her medical care and for going above and beyond to be there for us all.
We have entrusted our beloved mother to Ryan’s Funeral Home, Bay Bulls where visitation will take place on Saturday, January 7th from 2-9pm and Sunday January 8th from 2-9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, January 9th at 10am at St. Michael’s RC Church with interment to follow at St Michael’s Cemetery, St. Michael’s.
Flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made in Nellie’s memory to a charity of your choice.
