It is with great sadness and a lifetime of wonderful memories that we announce the peaceful passing of Nora Diana Hayden (nee Learning) on January 17th, 2024.
Predeceased by her parents Arthur and Jemima Learning, parents-in-law Ronald and Elizabeth Hayden, grandson Jacob Puddister, and siblings Sampson, Forward, Gladys, Marcella, Millie, Linda, and Marina.
Mom’s family were the light of her life, including her beloved husband of 64 years Harold Hayden; children Sandra, Richard (Linda), Elizabeth, Marlie (Keegan), and Lesa (Neil); grandchildren Jimmy (Cynthia), Melanie (Bill), Tyler (Katelyn), Kelsey (Julia), Brittney (Lucas), Kali, Erin, Natalie (Owen) and Nielle; great-grandchildren Calista, Lyla, Jesse, Hayden and Chase, and siblings Frank and Eleanor.
Mom accomplished so much in her 84 years, and we are all so proud of the person she was. She worked at Warr’s Pharmacy in Happy-Valley as well as The Hudson Bay Company. She loved to sew and making clothing for her children. Mom and Dad spent many years as the owners of The Riverside Restaurant, a gathering place for many in Cape Broyle.
Mom was known by Nan or Nanny Hayden to many people in her community. She had many friends and family from Cartwright, Goose Bay and Cape Broyle whom she cherished and talked about fondly. She often spoke about the beautiful winters in Labrador, where she was born and raised. She will be remembered forever for her kind heart, generosity, warm smile, amazing baking (especially her cherry cups) and for making everyone feel at home.
Our family would like to thank Dr. Rodney McCarthy, the staff at The Medicine Corner, the medical professionals at Pleasant View Towers (4NW), nurse Michelle Rossiter and social worker Mary Rossiter for their compassionate care of Nora over the years. We would also like to say a special thank you to Anne Marie Francois and Betty Hawkins for their kind and gentle care over our beautiful nanny.
To celebrate her life, family and friends will be gathering at Ryan’s Funeral Home, Bay Bulls on Sunday, January 21st from 2-9pm. Funeral service will be held on Monday, January 22nd at 11am from Immaculate Conception RC Church, Cape Broyle, with cremation to follow.
To all those who loved her
We know she would say,
Bye for now and God Bless
I’ll see you again someday.
