With thanks and appreciation for a long and productive life, the family announces the passing of our precious mother, Rose Furlong (Byrne), aged 94 years, in the early hours of March 14th, 2016. Rose was born on January 11, 1922, at St. Brendan''s, Bonavista Bay however home for the last 43 years has been Bay Bulls. She died from the complications of Alzheimer''s which, in recent years, erased
her of her life story one memory at a time. She was predeceased by her husband Nicholas on February 19, 2013 after 69 years of marriage, as well as siblings Bernard, James, John, Josephine and Margaret, and special niece Andrea Gatherall.
She leaves to mourn 4 sons and 5 daughters: Thomas (Nancy), Orleans, ON; Edward (Marilyn), Delaware, USA; Dr. Brian (Carla), Guelph, ON; Denis (Patricia), Paradise, NL; Laura Lynch (John), St. John''s, NL; Josephine Frangou (Dr. Phred), Calgary, AB; Madonna Morris (Emmett), St. John''s; Isabel Myles (Kevin), Holland Landing, ON; Mary Ann King (Brian), Sherwood Park, AB. In addition, she
leaves 17 grandchildren and 10 great- grandchildren including Lauren Chaulk - her "little one" in St. John''s, to whom she was very attached. She also leaves extended family including sisters Mary O''Reilly, Gander; Anne Walsh, St. Brendan''s; sisters-in-law Marguerite Byrne, Glover town; Nellie Fitzgerald, Deer Lake; plus many nephews and nieces.
The focus of her life was her family and her faith. Those blessings will continue with the pending arrival of 3 great-grandchildren in coming days and months. The family would like to extend our profound gratitude to the staff at Agnes Pratt who are angels in uniform and have provided exceptional care to our mother throughout her stay at the facility. We also extend sincere appreciation to the Byrne family for their many visits and nostalgic conversations with Mom over the years.
