Stephen "Steve" Coady

It is with profound sadness that we the family of the late Steve Coady announce his passing, at home after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, May 3, 2025.

He was predeceased by his son Stephen, granddaughter Meghan, parents; Jim and Josephine, and parents-in-law; Leo and Elizabeth Power, siblings: Robert, Mildred, Edward, Frank, Junior and Ernest, as well as many other members of the Coady and Power families.

 Leaving to mourn his devoted wife of 60 years, Irene, children; Sher (Johnny) and Heather (Bill), grandchildren: Cynthia (Jimmy), David (Linnea) and Patrick, great grandchildren: Lyla, Jesse, Victoria and Edward. Sisters: Annie (Bob), Agnes, Phyllis (Charlie), Catherine (Vince) and Doris, sister-in-law Estelle, along with many nieces, nephews and a large extended family and circle of friends. 

Steve spent 17 years in Wabush, where he and Irene started their family, working for Wabush Mines and was a valued member of the local Steelworkers Union. Upon retiring from the mine, he returned home to Cape Broyle where he owned and operated Rene’s Restaurant while living his lifelong dream, fishing with his brother Junior. Later in life, Steve took up sheep farming, where he made many loyal, lifelong friends. All the while he continued volunteering and fundraising for causes he held dear, such as the Knights of Columbus, The Cemetery Committee and The Church Committee. 

 The family would like to thank everyone for their love and friendship throughout Steve’s life, most especially during the past few months. We would also like to express our gratitude to Michelle Rossiter, who’s unwavering kindness and support helped navigate us through this most difficult time.

Resting at Ryan’s Funeral Home, Bay Bulls. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 7 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Thursday, May 8 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception RC Church, Lower Road, Cape Broyle on  Friday May 9, 2025 at 11:00 am with interment to follow at Our Lady of the Cape Cemetery, Route 10, Cape Broyle.

If friends so desire, donations in Steve’s memory can be made to the Cape Broyle Cemetery Committee or the Cape Broyle Church Committee.
