Vincent Vickers Obituary

It is with great sadness and broken hearts we announce the passing of Vincent Vickers of Witless Bay in his 80th year. Passed peacefully away at his home in the presence of his loving family after fighting a courageous 6 year battle with Dementia. Predeceased by his parents William and Mary Vickers; brother Herman Vickers (Patricia); sisters Mildred Norris (Ambrose), Irene Healey (Gerard), Elizabeth Riland (Tom) and sisters in law Regina Armstrong, Monica Hollohan (Kevin), Catherine Hollohan (Leo). Leaving to mourn with everlasting loving memories his wife Josephine of 49 years. His children Wanda, Jillian (Kenny); his most treasured grandchildren who were his world, Brooklyn (Louis), James and Wyatt; special niece Lisa Boone who was like another daughter and who took care of him the last 4 years; brothers Bill Vickers and sisters Bertha Williams (late Alec Williams) and Margaret Roache (late Jack Roache); brothers and sisters in law in the Armstrong family Louie (Anita), Jimmy (Bonita), Francis (Cathy), Lena (late Tom Joe), Jean (late Bill) and Agnes (late Robert). Also leaving to mourn many nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends Kevin Lundrigan (Brooklyn and James’ Dad), Bernie Williams and all his other friends he made over all the years he worked at Modern Paving. A sincere thank you to Dr. Wade Mercer and a very special thank you to the Home Dementia Team, Dr. Roger Butler and Nurse Practitioner Jennifer Williams who have helped our family tremendously through Dad’s journey. Thank you to Dad’s homecare support workers Mary Jane O’Brien, Madonna Byrne, Helen Carey, Wanda Williams, Marianne Vickers, Kayla Vickers and Lisa Guest. The care and love you gave Dad over the years will never be forgotten. Visitation to be held at Ryan’s Funeral Home in Bay Bulls on Saturday, August 13th from 7-9 pm and Sunday, August 14th from 2-9 pm. Funeral service at St. Patrick’s RC Church, Witless Bay on Monday, August 15th at 10 am. Inurnment at a later date. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations can be made in Dad’s memory to The Provincial Home Dementia Care Program at Healthcare Foundation, 71 Goldstone Street, Suite 103, St. John’s NL, A1B5C3.

Until we meet again, we will all be “Fair to Middlin.” We Love You Dad…
