It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our uncle Walter Joseph Carew, aged 85 years, formerly of Flatrock. Uncle Walter passed at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, St. John’s on Thursday, November 21, 2024.
He was predeceased by his parents; Walter and Annie Carew (nee McGrath), siblings: Thomas, Selina, Margaret Langer, Mary Kelly, Augustus, Catherine Coombs, Theresa, William and his twin brother John. Also predeceased by his nephews: Thomas Carew Jr., Tom Kelly and Jimmy Kelly, sister-in-law Mary Carew, brothers-in-law: Felix Langer, Walter Kelly and Bill Coombs.
Leaving to mourn many nieces, nephews and their families his extended family at Alderwood Retirement Centre in Witless Bay which has been his home since 1985. Words cannot express our appreciation to the management and staff (present and past) for the care, kindness, friendship and respect given to our uncle. He will also be missed by the residents (his friends) at Alderwood and many people in Witless Bay.
Uncle Walter was a man of faith, a gentle, quiet and kind man. He loved going for a walk on a fine day, participating at all the activities at Alderwood and lending a helping whenever and wherever he could.
Many thanks to the doctors, nurses and medical staff on 6 East of St. Clare’s for their care and compassion.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Ryan’s Funeral Home, Bay Bulls on Sunday, December 1 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist on Monday, December 2, 2024 at 1:00 pm with inurnment to follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Flatrock.
