It is with the heaviest of hearts, we announce the passing of our hero, Walter Joseph Tobin (Junior) on September 11, 2024. Surrounded by his loving family, he battled hard over the last few months but it was his time to leave us.
Predeceased by his parents, Walter & Laura (Critch), parents-in-law, Daniel and Violet (Perry) Doyle, brother, Robert Tobin and wife Beth, sister, Joan Tobin, brothers-in-law, Adrian Sullivan and Harold Hawkins, nephews, Walter Halleran and AJ Sullivan.
Left to mourn his devoted and loving wife of 58 years, Lorraine (nee Doyle), sons: Glenn (Paula), Darren (Brenda), Mark (Rebecca) and daughter Lisa (Sean Power). Grandchildren whom he adored: Laura (Jacob), Crayton, Hannah, Nex, Maggie and Rory. Brothers Ferg (Uriel), Nick (Rosemary), Gerry (Gert), Les (Jesse) and Bruce (Noelle). Sisters: Ruth (Willie Corcoran), Jen (Pat Kennedy) and Helen. Special Niece Joanne (Paul Parsons). Brothers-in-law; Nick Doyle (Bridget), Special Fishing buddy Donald Doyle (Ellen). Sisters-in-law: Daphne whom he absolutely adored (Gary Clowe), Genevieve (Gus Way), Lucy (Carlton Rideout), Hannah Doyle, Mary Hawkins, Arlene (James Green), as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
A very special mention to his great friend and neighbor, Roger Colbert. Also, nieces Bernice Sutton and Susan Cahill, you know that he loved you as much as you loved him.
Our heartfelt thank you to all of the doctors, nurses and staff who assisted him and us to navigate the past few months. Especially, staff of 5SB, Health Sciences Center, 5E, St. Clare’s and Dr’s; Organ, Andrews and Mercer. Also, Father Cecil Critch, for his comfort and prayers to our family during this difficult time.
Walter was an active and dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus of Witless Bay for 49 years and an outstanding member of his church and community, always there to lend a hand.
The family invites you to visit and celebrate his life at Ryan’s Funeral Home, Bay Bulls, on Sunday, September 15 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sts. Peter and Paul R.C. Church, Bay Bulls on Monday, September 16 at 11:00 am with inurnment to follow at St. Michael’s R.C. Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Walter’s memory may be made to The Knights of Columbus “Witless Bay” Food Hampers.
